When times are tough… Think of the others

It’s a tough time for everyone. Every day can be a struggle, especially when you have a bad day on top of your bad day.  I left work early yesterday with flu like symptoms, feeling miserable around 11:00 pm, as I work second shift.  By the way I live in Fort Wayne Indiana and have been shoveling snow and ice for about 2 weeks straight temperature right now is -15 degrees not counting the wind chill. Exhibit A if you live where there is Sunshine you just found something to be thankful for.

Back to the story, I get home and decide against my better judgement to do one load of laundry before going to sleep to get some much needed rest. I’m now about 3 minutes away from covering up with my warm soft blanket. Just one thing left to do, put the clothes into the dryer from the washer. It sounds simple until I open the door to the laundry room and find the entire floor flooded from a frozen drain pipe on my washer. To make a long story short 10 soaking wet towels and about an hour later, wet feet and all I sat down at my computer and listened to a song that I always listen to when I feel life has dealt me a bad hand.

The song is a country song by an artist named Joe Diffee titled Ships That Don’t Come In. At the time of this post you can hear the song at www.joediffie.com his myspace page. It just reminds me that sometimes our problems can be so small in the whole scheme of things. There are so many people out there who don’t have the chance to live a life like ours. The young soldiers that have died fighting for our freedom or constantly leaving their families for the front lines. The homeless who don’t know where they will spend their next night. We have people starving to death that would do anything for one piece of bread and as I dry my feet with a soft towel, dim the lights, plug in my ipod and pop open my perrier I close my eyes and take a moment to think of the others, who don’t have the chance for a life like mine, whose ship may never come in. If you’re having one of those days take a minute and make a list of all the things you are thankful for.  The simple things, food to eat, shoes to wear, a bed to sleep in. Do a good deed or something nice for someone who may be a little less fortunate and say a prayer for the others. Mike Fuller
